The other 1% are really hard to track down. : Is it really necessary to do make installworld with a 4.0 kernel? installworld will work with a DESTDIR != /. However, the install tools are run out of /usr/bin, et al, and after you install the new binaries, the new signal interface they use won't be supported by your kernel and things will start dying.
