All of the other mailers (except qmail I think) expect /etc/aliases to be in the usual format and the usual place. That is why I never moved it on FreeBSD and why I still am uncomfortable about sendmail "taking it over" in the sendmail-private /etc/mail directory. It is no big deal though as far as I am concerned.
