At the risk of pouring more gasoline on this fire, I still have one question.. does MFC'ing the fix patch make things any worse? That is, once a file is off the vendor branch, does MFC'ing the fix make things any worse? I'd like to commit this fix to 4.x-stable as well (but only if people won't freak out that is).
