I'm still having this same problem. I can run X great as root, but trying to run it from my other accounts fails ever time with the same message. BTW, FYI, I used /stand/sysinstall 's package file for XFree86 4.1.0. I'm sure there's just a simple setting that has to be corrected in the /etc/X11 directory, but which it is, I haven't the faintest idea. Does anyone have any suggestions for us?
