On the text console, I believe moused is process that allows the mouse to be used on the text-based virtual terminals (alt-F1 through alt-F8 by default on FreeBSD). When I haven't inserted the USB <=> PS/2 cable, and I'm not running X, on the text console, I can use the built-in laptop mouse to move the mouse cursor, select and paste text between the VC's, etc. That works fine... When I insert the USB <=> PS/2 cable, I see the kernel messages on the console that were included in a previous posting. I can use kbdcontrol to switch the keyboard from the laptop to the external one. I can use the *Laptop* mouse, and it works as stated above. When I use the *External* mouse hooked to the USB <=> PS/2 cable, nothing (on the screen) happens. The mouse cursor does not appear, nor does it move when I move the mouse. Unless I'm mistaken, if moused doesn't respond on the text console, it won't pass those mouse events on to /dev/sysmouse for X to use either...I've checked my XF86Config, and it already uses the /dev/sysmouse device... The device I'm using is the "QVS USB to PS/2 Keyboard and Mouse Adaptor," model number USB-PS2Y. The cable looks similar to the following: /---------------\ /--wire-----[PS/2Mouse] [USB]---wire------------|Solid Plastic |-< \---------------/ \--wire-----[PS/2Keyboard] Any ideas???
