I am not quite sure what has happened, I write this in case someone can explain it. After installing xfce and launched it to see how it looks I have restarted X with Blackbox and the applications written with GTK as grun or sylpheed have a different look and feel, lists have a thing line between items and buttons are hightlighted in blue, for instance. They look like the kind of colors I saw in xfce.
