That's easy: none. I'm a fairly advanced user, and here's my make.conf: #for world CPUTYPE=i686 COMPAT22=yes COMPAT3x=yes KERNCONF=BLEEDING #for other stuff DOC_LANG= en_US.ISO-8859-1 XFREE86_VERSION= 4 EMACS_VER=20.7 The only thing that's at all necessary is the KERNCONF entry. The CPUTYPE entry helps. Everything else is extra, for my environment.
