This last line is the ESS.

Normal.

Ross, if I'm understanding you correctly, you need to (a) remove the sbc 
device and (b) put this line in /boot/loader.conf:

snd_maestro3_load="YES"

and reboot. You could try a 'kldload snd_maestro3' from the 
command-line, but I think the 'sbc' might stuff it up.

The PNPBIOS stuff is optional - maybe it'll help with some other device, 
maybe not, but it isn't your problem here. I don't run it.

BTW, what for you want to capture audio on a cheesy audio device like 
this? ;-)
