Does anyone have an IRC server up and running using FreeBSD?

I downloaded the irc2.8.21.  I am new to FreeBSD and for the most part
Unix in general.  

When I try and run IRCD, it comes back with no errors or anything.  I do
a ps aux | more and look through it and find nothing that could be the
ircd process.

Is this the best IRC server for FreeBSD?  Thanks for any help you can
give.

Plus could someone recommend a good book to read to learn more about
FreeBSD.  I got the Installing and Running FreeBSD book.  But I would
like somehthing with more detail.
