Alternatively, why not launch the visual config program but have a
prominent option highlighted by default along the lines of "Press Enter =
to
continue boot process".  That way nobody forgets to go into config mode,
everyone gets to find out it's there (a major help, IMHO) and nobody has
trouble getting out of it and continuing with (hopefully) sensible
defaults.
