Hi ,

  I have a Philips CDD2600 CD-R Drive , on an Adaptec aic7850 Card.
I've had less than good luck getting it to work in
FreeBSD-2.2.1-RELEASE,
I've Activated the device worm0 line in the kernel , as I will show
you...
and I've changed burncd.sh to "Supposidly" work with the PHILIPS CDD2000
, but
I have the CDD2600 and there may be some imcompatability.. i don't know.

I can read from this cd-r drive fine, but not Burn anything at all
( isn't technology wonderfull ? :) , Is worm0 Supposed to show up in
the dmesg if its active and functioning
properly ? , Because it isn't listed in the dmesg when I boot,
and Wnenever I try and Burn a CD from an image file ( with burncd.sh ) ,
OR run wormcontrol with any argument I get..

wormcontrol: open(/dev/rworm0): Device not configured

This is the line I have added in the Kernel config file..

device worm0 at scbus?

here is a small Snip from my dmesg..

<snip>
ahc0 <Adaptec aic7850 SCSI host adapter> rev 1 int a irq 9 on pci0:18
ahc0: Using left over BIOS settings
ahc0 aic7850 Single Channel, SCSI Id=7, 3SCBs
ahc0 waiting for scsi devices to settle
(ahc0:4:0): "PHILIPS CDD2600 1.07" type 5 removable SCSI 2
cd0(ahc0:0:4:0): CD-ROM cd present [300989 x 2048 byte records]
<snip>

Note: /dev/worm0 and /dev/rworm0 do exist.

Well , Thats about all I can think of , People have tried to help
me with no success ;(
Some say That the 2600 just isn't Supported and I'm dead in the water ,
some say its a bug in freebsd , some say that my kernel config is wrong.
I've given up hope of me getting this to work , So I decided to post a
mail to
here ;)

I love FreeBSD as an OS , and its Performed Perfectly , and its been
compatable
with all my hardware..Except my cd-r drive ( if you call this
imcompatability ) , Excpet for this slight "Incident" I would have
classify
FreeBSD's performance, stability and Ease of use as Excellant.

All help is Greatly appreciated ,

I can be reached at Brick@dal.net , or as Brick on DALnet..
in #freebsd ( where else would I be ? )

				Thank you in advance,
				Jim Davis
