I don't remember which of the released versions I last had installed on my system, but it didn't have threads. Had it had __working__ threads then I would have turned it on in The Open Group release (and I expect XFree86 would have picked up the change too.) FWIW, trying to keep up with FreeBSD releases and get work done at the same time is getting a bit too much like keeping up with Linux releases.
