I finally have it booting from the hard disk (smile) and disklabel -B -b /usr/mdec/boot1 /dev/da0c works for me. The new problem only occurs when I do: >>>boot dka0 -flags a or >>>boot dka0 and enter ^D at the prompt which results in a 'hang' at the date. The following snips were produced by: >>>boot dka0 -flags a ---- FreeBSD 3.0-19981128-SNAP #1: Fri Dec 4 05:29:02 GMT 1998 root@multia.alienbabies.org:/usr/src/sys/compile/alienbabies ---- sio0 at port 0x3f8-0x3ff irq 4 on isa0 sio0: type 16550A, console ---- swapon: adding /dev/da0b as swap device Automatic reboot in progress... /dev/rda0a: clean, 245664 free (16200 frags, 28683 blocks, 3.7% fragmentation) Doing initial network setup: hostname. de0: flags=8843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500 inet 192.168.1.19 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 192.168.1.255 ether 08:00:2b:e5:a6:33 media: autoselect (10baseT/UTP) status: active supported media: autoselect 10base5/AUI manual 10baseT/UTP <full-duplex> 10baseT/UTP lo0: flags=8049<UP,LOOPBACK,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 16384 inet 127.0.0.1 netmask 0xff000000 Additional routing options: tcp extensions=NO. routing daemons:. There are NO problems if I boot without any flag or do not issue ^D at the prompt and mount everything by hand.
