Hello,=0A=0A=A0 =A0 =A0 I recently received a IMAC G3 (700Mhz, circa 2001) =
and want to run FreeBSD on it.=A0 =A0 I tried 8.0, 7.2 and on both, the ins=
tall fails very early on with a fata kernel trap message.=0A=0AI break into=
 the OF prompt then type:=0A=0Aboot cd:,\boot\loader cd:0=0A=0AIt looks lik=
e it starts the loader ok and it looks like it does it's thing and starts t=
he kernel but then after just a second or two, the kernel fails with the fo=
llowing messages:=0A=0Afatal kernel trap:=0A=A0 =A0 exception =3D 0x4 (inst=
ruction storage trap)=0A=A0 =A0 virtual address =3D 0x5121c8=0A=A0 =A0 srr0=
 =3D 0x5121c8=0A=A0 .... and so on.=0A=0AI found a suggestion about pausing=
 in the loader and shutting off fireware (slot 14) using a set command.=A0=
=A0=A0I tried doing that but it made no difference.=0A=0AI tried with both =
8.0, 7.2 (and a quick test with 6.2) but none of them worked.=0A=0AShould F=
reeBSD install work on an IMAC G3 700Mhz or am I beating a dead horse? =0A=
=0AI also tried updating the IMAC firmware to the latest (1.4.9) but it mad=
e no difference.=A0 =0A=0AThe IMAC does boot OSX just fine.=A0=A0=A0It also=
 booted a Linux install CD (YellowDog I think...).=A0=A0=A0So, I'm pretty s=
ure the HW is functioning properly...=0A=0AI did boot the FreeBSD 8.0 insta=
ll CD on my eMAC (1.42Ghz) and it started up into the installer without pro=
blem. =0A=0A=0A=0A
