You can also change the source code so that the default cache size is much
bigger. see
/usr/src/usr.sbin/pwd_mkdb
HASHINFO openinfo = {

Change it to something like
2048 * 1024 * 5, /* cachesize */
make depend
make
make install
We use *10 here...
