That's definitely cleaner, but it adds an instance of 'test' that I'd prefer were case, since case is a builtin. Also, testing for the presence of mount_nfs instead of the absence protects us against something changing in the future. Losing the temp variable is a good idea though, how about: case "`mount -d -a -t nfs`" in *mount_nfs*) echo -n "Mounting NFS file systems" mount -a -t nfs echo . ;; esac I'll reboot with that asap and let y'all know...I can't do it right now because I'm monitoring some stuff at work.
