Subject:   proper way to make kernel...

Hi everyone.  Is it normal to have "make kernel KERNCONF=something"
produce a smaller kernel than "config something, cd
../../compile/something, make depend, make, make install"?  And if so,
why is the former not the preferred way to compile a personalized
kernel?  Thanks.
