First, this is the wrong forum for asking technical questions. The correct forum would be
freebsd-questions. However, this forum can be used to help you form the question or to figure
out just which question to ask. :) This forum is mainly for newbies to gather and to discuss their
joys/tribulations in using FreeBSD for various projects/reasons. Just an FYI for next time. :)

Are you trying to replace the BIND integrated into the FreeBSD base-system, or just want to add
9.1.3 to try out as a possible replacement?

Couple of different ways. However, first you have to define "upgrade": replace or add?

As a general first rule of thumb, always check the man pages for help. :) If you don't know
exactly which man page to check, try a search using "man -k <keyword>" man -k upgrade or
man -k ports or man -k package would be very beneficial. :)

As a quick shortcut: check the pkg_add man page. Note the -r option.

As a quicker shortcut: consider adding the "portupgrade" package.

Linux is for people who hate Windows.
FreeBSD is for people that like UNIX.
