try forcing host1's tx0 media type to 10baseT/UTP instead of letting
it autoselect. The easiest way would be to add "media 10baseT/UTP" to
the ifconfig line in /etc/rc.conf followed by a reboot, although it is
possible to do so without needing to reboot.
