It's a lot of work to make sure you don't pick up the system installed components accidently. I would call the contortions that Mozilla goes through to get an alternate OpenSSL "Heroic measures". Just because waving a dead chicken fixes something, doesn't mean we all want to have to add dead chickens to our toolboxes.
