I read Jef Raskin's comments, and even though I've heard this opinion expressed before I don't understand them. If every window manager out there has done it wrong, why doesn't Raskin put his money where his mouth is and provide us with his vision of the humane GUI? I know that he's written his thoughts/experience in his book, but why not give us an implementation to show the uneducated masses his superior methodology at work? Furthermore, given that most GUIs have pretty much become standard in terms of the placement and use of various widgets and window decorations, wouldn't radical changes to them essentially run counter to the standardization that he argues is so beneficial?
