While reading the manual at 
http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/device-hints.html
it says ->
disabled: if set to 1 the device is disabled.
So that maybe my problem.
I'll give it a shot tomorrow, and report back...
