How long it takes depends on the number of changes, first time will probably take a longer. You can speed up in two ways: instead of ports-all specify the parts you want updated. Or, use a refuse file. The two methods work oposite: with the first you actively select the parts you want with refuse file you active select the parts you don't want. I recommend the latter because some times the ports tree is reorganized and you won't get new groups if you use the first method. Whichever you choose, sometimes you get surprised: I found a nice tool for converting chm-files to html in the chinese collection!??
