I'm still getting random lock ups with this combination, along with 
screen corruption and a hard reboot is needed to get to unlock the 
machine, with and without an xorg.conf file.

When the lock up happens, this is all that's in the logs [mi] EQ 
overflowing. The server is probably stuck in an infinite loop.
