Thanks Andrey,

I've just recompiled /boot/gptboot after updating gpt.c and installed it 
via:

gpart bootcode -p /boot/gptboot -i 1 da0

I still see "gptboot: invalid backup GPT header" on boot (but it does 
still boot).
