IME, among commercial offerings, virtually all support SMB (via Samba) but only the high-end (large & relatively costly) ones support NFS also. (A while back, the largest Buffalo that Fry's had -- 4TB IIRC -- claimed to support NFS; all other NAS of any brand mentioned only SMB and DELNI.) You can use an inexpensive SMB-only NAS with a FreeBSD client, but you'll need Samba on the client.
