Sun released the Linux version of Java v1.3 JDK/JRE as of Sept. 07, 2000. 
Why can't we just use that in -current for now if not already there?!?!? 
Would  it take awhile to make it into -STABLE (not as open source, just as 
developer tool or port/package)??
