Hi, I work for CLEAR Communications in New Zealand. We run the ftp.nz.freebsd.org mirror. Historically we ran the clunky Perl ftp mirror script. I later changed to rsync from the Australian mirror - although this was problematic for some silly inter-carrier bandwidth reasons. I left the problem to a colleague who told me that he had organised rsync from the US mirror. This appears to be broken at present and I am not sure if it ever worked (that person has since left the company). The rsync to ftp.freebsd.org fails with "Connection timed out" - which would indicate that our SYNs are silently discared somewhere - maybe. Actually - ftp.freebsd.org seems to be a *long* way away: # traceroute ftp.freebsd.org. traceroute to ftp.beastie.tdk.net (62.243.72.50), 30 hops max, 40 byte packets 1 front2.clear.net.nz (203.97.32.242) 1.115 ms 1.048 ms 1.836 ms 2 jcore1-ge-0-2-0-acld.auckland.clix.net.nz (203.97.2.246) 5.996 ms 5.509 ms 2.084 ms 3 jcore1-ge-0-2-0-acld.auckland.clix.net.nz (203.97.2.246) 1.917 ms 1.182 ms 1.324 ms 4 jb2-at-0-0-0-200-wils.losangeles.clix.net.nz (203.97.7.70) 143.838 ms 142.638 ms 142.550 ms 5 us-ca-la-core2-e4-0.rtr.concentric.net (206.111.43.36) 145.137 ms 155.305 ms 143.886 ms 6 ge10-0.dist1.lax-ca.us.xo.net (64.220.2.98) 148.041 ms 145.209 ms 146.399 ms 7 ge1-0.edge1.lax-ca.us.xo.net (64.220.0.85) 144.472 ms 156.361 ms 145.247 ms 8 206.111.14.190 (206.111.14.190) 146.695 ms 144.458 ms 144.206 ms 9 pos2-1-155M.cr1.LAX1.gblx.net (206.132.112.113) 144.206 ms 144.564 ms 143.268 ms 10 so0-0-0-2488M.cr2.LON3.gblx.net (195.8.96.174) 288.711 ms 306.835 ms 297.088 ms 11 pos2-0-622M.ar2.LON2.gblx.net (208.49.136.58) 300.612 ms 289.867 ms 286.237 ms 12 TeleDenmark.pos4-0-155M.ar2.LON2.gblx.net (208.49.136.74) 291.143 ms 288.864 ms 289.083 ms 13 ge0-0.1000M.linxnxg1.ip.tele.dk (195.249.13.121) 324.304 ms 323.058 ms 328.554 ms 14 * pos4-0.155M.albnxg1.ip.tele.dk (195.249.2.169) 327.546 ms 322.176 ms 15 pos7-0.2488M.arcnxg1.ip.tele.dk (195.249.6.126) 310.603 ms 306.775 ms 315.701 ms 16 pos4-0.2488M.opanxg1.ip.tele.dk (195.249.2.162) 307.712 ms 316.135 ms 307.703 ms 17 ge2-2.1000M.d3.opa.tdk.net (193.163.158.169) 307.375 ms 307.196 ms 307.336 ms 18 vlan1.d6.opa.tdk.net (193.163.159.231) 323.585 ms 322.637 ms 320.422 ms 19 vlan1.d6.opa.tdk.net (193.163.159.231) 324.886 ms !X * 321.960 ms !X Are you able to point me at good source for our mirror? We have an OC3 to Los Angeles - soon to add another. Bandwidth to Australia is presently under pressure. Kind regards, Jamie Clark.
