This is, I think, a salient question. I'm not a dev, but when selecting an OS one of the things I look for is <whatever OS> dogfooding it (for example, mail services) Dogfooding it means belief in the product. if the authors of the product don't dogfood then why should I trust them? For this reason, even projects that I'd like to support, like for example hardenedbsd, even though i agree with their philosophy, they don't dogfood their mailing list. How can I take seriously a distro purporting to be hot on security yet their mailing list is on flipping gmail, I ask you. If they were running their ml on hardenedbsd OS I'd be more trusting as they're essentially "putting their money where their mouth is". But they're not. That's not dissing hardenedbsd per se. I agree with their objectives. But it gives me pause. Contrast with openbsd, where as far as I'm aware is all running on openbsd OS. I don't know fully about freebsd, but I think it's the same deal. It's a trust thing. -- J.
