Removable media in xfce used to automatically mount, at least as of a 
few weeks ago.  Now I see:

Failed to mount "NIKON D40".
org.freedesktop.hal.storage.mount-fixed no <-- (action, result).

Has there been a configuration change?

polkitd_enable="YES"  (looks like this is obsolete now)
