https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=271281 Bug ID: 271281 Summary: gpart: wrong and useless error message "Invalid argument" when gpart fails due to internal bugs Product: Base System Version: Unspecified Hardware: Any OS: Any Status: New Severity: Affects Some People Priority: --- Component: kern Assignee: bugs@FreeBSD.org Reporter: sblachmann@gmail.com One longstanding hassle with setting up FreeBSD is gpart and its bugs. For example, gpart frequently fails to create partitions for unknown reasons. It then always prints "Invalid argument" when the arguments are perfectly correct, and some bug makes it fail. It is highly annoying and embarassing to see that FreeBSD has deteriorated that much that it is not even capable to set up partitions, and the need to have a Linux live CD handy, just for setting up drives. Suggested solution: So, in case of failure in spite of valid arguments please have gpart print diagnostics information instead of "Invalid argument" and ask the user to file a bug report against gpart. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.home | help
