https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=276763 Bug ID: 276763 Summary: motd: remove adding/executing "uname -v" output dynamically Product: Base System Version: 13.2-STABLE Hardware: Any OS: Any Status: New Severity: Affects Some People Priority: --- Component: bin Assignee: bugs@FreeBSD.org Reporter: michaelo@FreeBSD.org Prepending a processed version of "uname -v" creates several problems: * The message isn't static, if you need dynamic you can go with https://github.com/sstallion/dynamic_motd * It does not add a huge value/benefit because the default motd says "Show the version of FreeBSD installed: freebsd-version ; uname -a" and when done it can lead to the next point * The most important issue with it is that the output is not always correct and can confuse users. See https://github.com/BastilleBSD/bastille/issues/393. If you run in a jail which is not the exactly the same version as the jailhost you see incorrect information.
