https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=286107 Bug ID: 286107 Summary: ports-mgmt/pkg: improvement request: only install files whose checksum have changed Product: Ports & Packages Version: Latest Hardware: Any OS: Any Status: New Severity: Affects Only Me Priority: --- Component: Individual Port(s) Assignee: pkg@FreeBSD.org Reporter: d8zNeCFG@aon.at Flags: maintainer-feedback?(pkg@FreeBSD.org) Assignee: pkg@FreeBSD.org Scenario: - FreeBSD stable/14 - ports latest - upgrading ports using 'pkg upgrade' Result: - All files of the old ports are removed, then all files of the updated ports are installed - For many ports, the contents of most files do not change at all - This results in unnecessary disk churn, SSD wear level increase, backup size increase, etc. Desired result: - 'pkg upgrade' should compute the differences between the old and the new installed files, most likely using their checksum - 'pkg upgrade' should then delete and add files as necessary to implement the new pkg plist. - Unchanged files should not be touched at all, not even their mtime. - This would help a lot especially with the big ports: KDE, LibreOffice, ... -- Martin -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.home | help
