I agree that it would make life more enjoyable for some people, but the console is increasingly a fail-safe debugging/configuring interface, as more people use X for any work. Yes, I would use it myself in places, especially laptops, but I would not like it there if it possibly made the console less stable. It would want to be very well tested.
