I have a rather vanilla installation of FreeBSD 4.2, which I loaded
from the installation CD-ROM. Because I wanted to be able to look
over the /usr/obj tree (without actually changing anything on the
system, I went to /usr/src and (as root) did a "make buildworld". I
was quite distressed to find that it failed, as:

Is this a known problem, preferably with a known workaround? BTW, I have
a "script" listing from the build attempt, in case there is anything I need
to examine...
