Just wanted to say thanks to all those who pointed out the inconsistenecy of asking all you guys to refrain from using attachments whilst sending out emails in HTML with a Gif attached......my only excuse is that I have moved half way over the world and do not yet have a bsd system up and running :-) - waiting for the new 4.00 CDs to arrive .. any day now I hope. My main objection surrounds those who do not put the substanstance of their message in the main email but provide you with a subject line - no introduction and you therefore get blind attachments.. This is another point which you could regard as being subsidiary to the main issue. I am not certain that I would agree with you here for three reasons. The first is a general one, and one that you might regard as irrelevant but I do not. I feel we need not disregard anyone's legitimate concerns. I also feel a need to be very welcoming to people who may (for example) be subscribing to the list as part of a learning exercise prior to installing freebsd. They are going to be very put off if they find people behaving in a manner they find to be either intolerant or inconsiderate. The second reason is that such an approach is somewhat inconsistent with the proclaimed notion that it is sensible to track this list prior to installing freebsd.By definition that would be done from some other platform. Thirdly freebsd users might want to track the list using some other OS if their system is down and they can`t fix it. They may want to use "some other lousy OS" or mailer to ask for help. And that poor unfortunate sould could be any one of us some day. So my plea is - can we, on those grounds at least, err on the side of being inclusive in our thinking rather than exclusive.
