Only X11 and 3dfx (glquake) modes work, and the latter only with the
patched svgalib and your own compiled Mesa-2.6. svgalib mode using the
VGA card does not work under FreeBSD.

More notes (where do I place these?):

Permissions seem to be insane.
  chmod -r u+w . ; chown -r root .

3dfx mode: When using 3dfx mode. You have to use svga-foo.tar.gz to
get the console back into sane mode after quake2 exits. Works only
with syscons, not pcvt. I'm still having problems that cursor and num
block keys don't work in syscons. You can play with pcvt, but make
sure you have a network login to operate the machine after playing.

3dfx mode: You can't use the MesaGL lib from the quake2-linux kit. You
have to compile your own using the linux_devel port.

3dfx mode: On my box with a nonnome 3dfx card, I can't use 640x480
mode (although it works in windows 95), but have to use 512x384. Do
this in config.cfg:
  set gl_mode "2"

In x11 mode, keyboard autorepeat can be switched off if quake2
crashes.
