segv's can often be caused by hardware problems, as you stated. Usually CPU,
cache, or memory can be culprits. You might try entering your BIOS setup and 
use conservative memory timings, turn off some "optimizations" relating to this
hardware, or maybe even underclock your CPU temporarily.
