You might try this approach.

Update your ports tree.

Install 'sysutils/portmanager'.

Then run 'portsclean -C -D -DD -L -P -PP' which should pretty much clean
up any previous build attempts.

Now run 'portmanager -u -f -l -y'

Once it finishes, your system should be good to go.
