I'm looking at updating our gcc 2.8.1 port to allow for our recent a.out/elf split. If possible, I'd like to add support for both elf and a.out in one compiler while I'm at it. I had in mind just changing the freebsd.h file. Is this possible to do, just by updating freebsd.h? But from what I can tell, the .h file can handle it. Is the situation probably stable enough that I can go ahead and do this, and not have to redo it next week? Finally, is anybody else working on this, or has somebody already written it?
