I see two more possibilities for such a lingua franca file system: xfs and zfs.

I noticed, on http://distrowatch.com/ , that there was an update to xfsprogs package.

xfsprogs is included in Linux (Slackware 13.0), and I see xfsprogs packages in NetBSD pkgsrc and freebsd ports.

I saw an article in heise online that ZFS will be available for Linux:
