cdrecord is for use with SCSI burners only.  If it worked for you in linux 
you had IDE-SCSI emulation enabled which doesn't exist in FreeBSD.

There is a native ATAPI CD burning tool called burncd that is installed on 
your system.  Learn to use it :) .   I did.  Its pretty good.

You need to make iso images before you burn so get mkisofs from the ports 
collection and learn how to use it too.  It is also very good. :)

I don't think there are any plans to use IDE-SCSI emulation any time soon in 
FreeBSD.  I asked earlier. :)
