[-- Attachment #1 --] I had a problem with installation and finally worked it out, but the solution to that problem created another, neither of which are documented (so far as I can determine). Question: Why does my computer freeze up part way into the install process when I try to install FreeBSD 4.4-Release? Answer: To solve this problem reconfigure the system BIOS to enable "PNP OS", then the device probe finds all the PNP devices, including the CDROM where the install disc is located. This change is also necessary any time "/stand/sysinstall" or "/stand/sysinstall configPackages" is run. DO NOT FORGET TO RECONFIGURE THE BIOS TO DISABLE "PNP OS" AFTER THE INSTALLATION IS COMPLETE OR YOU ARE FINISHED INSTALLING PACKAGES! If the PNP OS option is enabled some pnp devices (such as the sound card) may not work.
