I have just set up a RAID-0 using a 3ware Escalade 6200 controler,
and I am very impressed with the performance, for both reading and
writing. In addition, it is true "plug and play": the "twe" driver
just works. In addition, the 3DM web-based management utility works
like a charm. I am very thankful to Mike Smith for his great work.
I am getting >20 MB/sec with sequential writes, and >25 MB/sec
with sequential reads (using dd(1)). Using bonnie, I got these
results:
Write cache disabled:
-------Sequential Output-------- ---Sequential Input-- --Random--
-Per Char- --Block--- -Rewrite-- -Per Char- --Block--- --Seeks---
Machine MB K/sec %CPU K/sec %CPU K/sec %CPU K/sec %CPU K/sec %CPU /sec %CPU

The file system has softupdates enabled. The CPU is a PPro/180. The disks
are mid-range Seagates (ATA-66); I am waiting for two 75GB IBM DTLA to
arrive. The system is running FreeBSD 4.3-BETA.
Cheers,
