on my home box (2.0.5, PCI NCR), I have SCSI CD and HD installed, and when I do 'eject' in cdplay, the machine reboots!! (in single-user, without swapping, I was able to see an error from driver, after that it resets the devices (effectively disabling them), and so all disk accesses give me 'I/O error'. In multi-user, I have catched a fast scrolling horde of swapper messages about errors on swap device (no doubt it rebooted shortly). I would upgrade to 2.1 (or may be would just get a driver from 2.1 first and see whether the problem would persist). dmesg output follows: Dec 5 03:44:21 dog /kernel: ncr0 <ncr 53c810 scsi> rev 1 int a irq 9 on pci0:13 Dec 5 03:44:21 dog /kernel: reg20: virtual=0xf224b000 physical=0xf0800000 si ze=0x100 Dec 5 03:44:21 dog /kernel: ncr0: restart (scsi reset).
