The deadlock I was running into with net/samba47 builds would happen
with and without SMT enabled.  With the patch at
https://reviews.freebsd.org/D14347
I can build net/samba47 reliably with all cores running full out on a
zero loaded machine, or a machine that is maxed out with other processes
and pressure on RAM.

I think there were other unrelated things going on with the platform
that seem to be now all resolved for me
