We don't use anything newer than RELENG_4, yet. However, a modified patch went into RELENG_4 (rev. 1.94.2.3). In my eyes it wasn't 100% semantically correct, but it did its job. The respective source code has changed quite a bit in RELENG_7 (probably RELENG_5 and RELENG_6, too, but I didn't look), mainly because of the introduction of kernel threads, and as far as I can tell from looking at the code the problem doesn't exist there.
