-----Original Message----- From: owner-freebsd-hackers@freebsd.org [mailto:owner-freebsd-hackers@freebsd.org] On Behalf Of Zhihao Yuan Sent: Monday, September 17, 2012 1:54 PM To: Mike Meyer Cc: freebsd-hackers@freebsd.org Subject: Re: Providing a default graphical environment on FreeBSD Well, let's make it more straightforward. I hope people can agree with this: a default, officially supported modern desktop environment is essential to FreeBSD. This has already been answered. If you want a FreeBSD with a "default" graphical desktop environment, install PC-BSD. Otherwise FreeBSD is not really for the "install complete running workstation out of the box" crowd, Its more the "let me customize my system to exactly the way I want it" crowd, which has been a detriment to getting the silly linux fanboys to drop their script Kiddy style lifestyles of just accepting whatever their linux distro provides. Therefore you will never see a default graphical option outside of the basics of X11. Besides, the options you mentioned are not part of the graphical window managers, they are plugins and other utilities that happen to run parallel and have GUI tie-ins. Most of them really are nothing more than console programs with a graphical config screen.help
