Hi Michael,

you don't specify which version of fBSD you're using, so I'll assume V4.x. 

Caveat: I've not yet bothered to get sound running on my (Dell) Laptop, so
I've not been through all the heartache of getting sound running. To be
honest, I use it as a 'workstation' (is that like a "train station" - a place
where trains stop?), and my colour scheme on the display is 'grey on grey' ;')

have a look at sbc(4) - this is the "Creative Sound Blaster ISA and compatible
bridge device driver" for "ESS ES1868, ES1869, ES1879 and ES1888". I'm pretty
sure this won't be the "whole" answer, but it should be a 'good start'.
