For listening MP3's you have many options.  The simplest is probably
mpg123, which is a very light console MP3 player (i use it all the
time).  You can download and install it via the ports collection by
su'ing to root and typing:

# cd /usr/ports/audio/mpg123
# make install

As for BitchX, you should be able to start it by typing `BitchX' (note
the caps).

Well, that depends a great deal on what you want to do. :-)

It's highly recommended to start by reading the FreeBSD handbook, which
should be installed locally on your system:

$ lynx file://localhost/usr/share/doc/handbook/basics.html

Specifically, you might find this chapter useful:

$ lynx file://localhost/usr/share/doc/handbook/basics.html
